Nigeria has experienced significant economic progress since publication in 1999 of the first edition of Perspectives on Nigerian Economic Development. Two main drivers of this progress have been the beneficial return to democratic rule and the implementation of key economic reforms, particularly in pursuing external debt relief, implementing excess crude account to stabilize revenue volatility, introducing contributory pension schemes and taking steps to privatize key sectors such as telecommunications. This volume is focused on issues relating to good political and corporate governance and national development; budget and fiscal policy; the Nigerian financial and capital markets and banking. Part one deals with the issues of globalisation and how Nigeria can play in the emergent environment. Part two (Managing the Nigerian Economy), Part three (Strengthening the Nigerian Banking Sector and Part Four (Entrepreneurship and Corporate Governance) proffers ways and means of handling these intertwined aspects of national challenges. The final part - Key Sector Issues deals with three vital areas - Education, Transportation, and Oil and Gas.

Foreword
Nigeria has experienced significant economic progress since publication in 1999 of the first edition of Perspectives on Nigerian Economic Development. Two main drivers of this progress have been the beneficial return to democratic rule and the implementation of key economic reforms, particularly in pursuing external debt relief, implementing excess crude account to stabilize revenue volatility, introducing contributory pension schemes and taking steps to privatize key sectors such as telecommunications. In each case, the benefits have fostered both internal and external expectations that Nigeria could rank within the top 20 global economies by 2020 or soon thereafter. A more realistic assessment is that the upside potential of Nigeria has been partly demonstrated in the past decade but it is clear that not nearly enough has been done to finally unlock Nigeria’s great potential on a sustainable, long term basis.
It has been the lifetime mission of Pascal G. Dozie to relentlessly analyze the causes of Nigeria’s inability to breakthrough on the economic front to pursue workable solutions through multiple leadership roles in think tanks, chambers, educational institutions, public sector appointments, charitable organizations and, most importantly, in private sector management and investments in financial services, private equity, telecommunications and other diversified businesses. He truly has been one to practice what he preaches as well as continue to speak out on every facet of nation building, with particular emphasis on the fundamental economic issues which still remain largely unresolved and unimplemented.
Having shared in many endeavours with Pascal, it is clear that what Nigeria needs to do to unlock its potential is well understood by many,
