Ability to manipulate basic mathematical objects such as numbers,
fractions, plane geometry, graphs, mathematical pictures and
diagrams, logic, some basic scientific background.

Maths is a culture (not a set of dry formulas to be randomly tried on
“problems”).
Maths is a language (which needs to be learned, understood and
used).
TIMTOWTDI (There is more than one way to do it).
Mathematicians don’t believe a statement unless it is proven.
The hardcore ones won’t sleep well until the question is settled.
Mathematicians constantly look for trouble.
Maths is a social and transnational activity.
