Five Pictures for Orchestra
Peter Dyson 2010

Leningrad exists now only the minds of an ageing Soviet population. The City is littered with symbols of its Soviet past, evoking a sense of nostalgia for this period in its history. These views of the city recall that nostalgia, sometimes with sadness, through the windows of trams and trolley buses, the curtained windows of Brezhnev period flats, stolovaya café windows and produckti shop windows looking out at people passing. There are five views: Relaxed Nostalgically Robustly Gently Energetically. I first wrote then for four equal instruments (for Tubalate) but on re-listening to them have found the limitation of that sound world too severe an imposition. Thus they are recast for a wider orchestral palate. Peter Dyson May 2010 Duration - 20 mins
