Flauto e Viola
Performance notes
Flauto e viola, as the title implies, is for flute and viola. The composition is a fragment of
an infinite sequence rigorously constructed using a genetic algorithm which is optimising
for the absence of entropy. In simpler terms:
it is a simulation of a population evolving over time towards uniformity, where the
"DNA" of each living being in the population represents a note sequence and at each
successive generation the "DNA" of the fittest individuals is combined through
reproduction; metaphorically speaking, the viola and flute are the "parents" of successive
generations of flute/viola children which have to survive in an entropy-adverse environment.
The piece is made of a number of sections (marked GA, GB, etc.) which should be played
consecutively and without any interruption.
