What AreAnxiety Disorders and Phobias
Anxietyis often a term used for a number of disorders that cause people to feelnervous, fearful, apprehensive or worried. Not only can these disordersaffect the way we feel but also the way in which we behave and there is a riskof them manifesting into actual physical symptoms.
Thosewho suffer from mild forms of anxiety or phobias will feel unsettled. Whereasthose who suffer from more severe forms of these disorders can find that theyare very debilitating and will impact very severely on their lives on a dailybasis.
Mostpeople will experience some form of worry or fear when they are faced withsomething new or something challenging such as a test or an interview. Not onlycan these feelings be easily justified they are also considered to be quitenormal. Anxiety or phobias only become a problem when the symptoms associatedwith them start to interfere with a person’s life. Generally anxiety will occurwhen the reaction someone has to something is completely out of proportion withwhat is normal during a certain situation.
Suchconditions can be classified into several different types and below we brieflytake a look at what these are.
Type1 – GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder)
Thisparticular form of anxiety disorder is characterized by excessive as well aslong lasting anxiety or worry relating to non specific events, objects orsituations in a person’s life. Those who suffer from this particular anxietydisorder will often feel afraid about matters such as money, health, family, work or school. However these people not only have trouble identifying what iscausing their fear but also finding ways of controlling it. The fear they arefeeling usually is unrealistic or completely out of proportion with what isconsidered normal during certain situations.
