Foreword
I love mountains and I love climbing them! I can’t remember a time when I didn’t relish the adventure of being out in nature and the challenge of getting to the top. In recent years, my love for climbing has taken me to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft.) in Africa and Everest Base Camp (17,598 ft.) in Nepal. High elevation trekking is one of the hardest but most thrilling things I’ve ever done.
But what do we do when those mountains are not just for climbing, but they are very real obstacles, hindrances, or problems blocking our way forward—blocking the blessings that God has stored up for us but that seem impossible to grasp because of the mountain or mountains in our way.
We do what Jesus said we should do. We tell the mountain to MOVE!
Jesus said, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20 NIV ).
Years ago, I was in line for a position I’d hoped and prayed would open up. When the job finally became available, I was sure they’d pick me! I felt it was a perfect fit for me, but no call came. But God in His mercy gave me a vision. I saw a large pile of debris like you’d see after a storm (twigs and tree limbs) piled twelve feet high and twelve feet wide. It was totally impenetrable.
Somehow, I knew exactly what the vision meant! There was something blocking me from this position, something hindering management from seeing me in this role.
I knew I had to pray and tell it to move. Although I felt a little ridiculous, I called a friend and asked if she’d join me to move a mountain out of my way. After dark, we met outside the building, and we prophetically pushed that pile of debris out of the way. We declared it done and no longer able to hinder God’s perfect will for me. The very next morning I got the call—and I got the job! And the rest is history.
In Women Who Move Mountains, Sue Detweiler takes us on a journey, where we learn to speak to the mountains of fear, discouragement, loss, pain, or whatever it is that’s hindering us from moving forward with God, and then watch it move in the name of Jesus! You have the power. It only takes a mustard seed of faith. The same God who made the mountains and made them for climbing gave us the power to move them by our prayers! So get your hiking boots on because you’re about ready to climb high
