“Bonnie and Mahesh are amazing friends who love the Holy Spirit. They have huge, pure hearts. They are always a tremendous delight to be with because they love the presence of God. Getting to Know the Holy Spirit clearly flows out of their intimate friendship with God and out of living lives that are laid down for God’s glory. I am thrilled to be able to recommend this book and pray that it leads many to become more intimately acquainted with the Holy Spirit.”
— Heidi Baker, Ph.D., founding director, Iris Ministries
“Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda are two of my favorite people in the world partly because of how they joyfully model the theme of this book, Getting to Know the Holy Spirit . The Chavdas are known for prayer, passion, victorious living and absolute devotion to Christ. From my observation, all of these things flow from their relationship with the Holy Spirit. This book gives us a glimpse into one of the most sacred privileges in life: intimately knowing the third Person of the Trinity. It is practical, inspiring and revelatory. My heart burned as I read Getting to Know the Holy Spirit .”
— Bill Johnson, senior pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California; author, When Heaven Invades Earth and Face to Face with God
“With biblical accuracy, contemporary testimonies and lives changed by the present-day ministry to the Holy Spirit, statesmen Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda bring us a classic in their book Getting to Know the Holy Spirit . With an equal mix of exposure to both the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we are given a cutting-edge and yet balanced look at the third Person of the Godhead! I applaud Mahesh and Bonnie for living what they believe and helping the rest of us mature in the knowledge of God.”
— James W. Goll , founder, Encounters Network and Prayer Storm International; author, The Seer, The Lost Art of Intercession, The Coming Israel Awakening and many others

Foreword
For nearly forty years now, Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda have been getting to know the Holy Spirit. I don’t know anyone who is more qualified to teach on the Person of the Holy Spirit than Mahesh and Bonnie.
The first time I met Mahesh, my wife, Sharon, and I were invited to sing at a pastors’ conference in Lagos, Nigeria. Mahesh was invited to be one of the speakers. I found out that he loved Jesus and loved country music—my kind of preacher! Mahesh was holding some healing meetings at night, so he asked if Sharon and I would come and sing some songs. We were good ol’ Baptist kids, so we thought, “This will be great. We’ll get out and meet some of the country folks.”
So we sang a few songs, and then Mahesh got up and started to teach on the power of the Holy Spirit. Many in Africa knew of Mahesh because a few years before we were there, a little boy had been raised from the dead in one of his meetings. So there was great anticipation that the Holy Spirit would do something miraculous in these services. And He didn’t disappoint!
While Mahesh was teaching, he stopped talking for a moment. Then he said, “I have a word from the Holy Spirit that there is a little girl here who was born blind, and tonight the Lord wants to heal you and give you sight.” Well, I had never heard that kind of a word before, but sure enough, in a few minutes here came a little blind girl, with her mother and her aunt, onto the stage.
Mahesh said, “Ricky, come, let’s see what the Holy Spirit is going to do for this little girl.” So I walked over and stood close by. Mahesh didn’t even touch her. He just prayed and asked the Lord to open her eyes and give her sight. He wanted the Holy Spirit to get all the credit for the miracle. I just stood there and watched as her eyes went from totally unfocused to focused. She looked at her hands. She looked at us strange men. Then she looked at her mother for the first time in her life.
But God never wastes a moment like that. I also received my sight that night as well. My eyes were opened to a power I had only read about. I’ve never been the same since. I’m still getting to know the Holy Spirit some twenty years later. It’s a lifelong journey worth taking. This will be a great book for all of us who are getting to know the Holy Spirit!

Introduction
We are so happy to have an opportunity to talk with you about the best friend a human being can have. His name is the Holy Spirit of God. Every person has the opportunity to know Him in all His truth and love and beauty, but many people are still wondering and searching. Perhaps you have kept some distance from this mysterious Person of the Trinity. Perhaps you have met Him, and want to know Him more closely. Perhaps you want to discover the gifts He has given you and grow in their use.
Both of us had the privilege of discovering a personal relationship with God many years ago. We have each individually and together nurtured this relationship daily for nearly forty years. And we have learned that the way to have a true relationship with God is to get to know the Holy Spirit.
So it is with great joy that we anticipate that this book will help you deepen your relationship with God in a dynamic, relevant way.
We want you to know the possibility of personal fulfillment. We want you to be awakened to a fresh, confident and positive self-identity. We want you to consider—and maybe even believe—that you have a glorious personal destiny that is unique and beautiful and creative and special and important and valuable and eternal. We want you to have a whole heart, a healed heart, and a mind that is sound and at peace. We want you to move in power in your everyday life.
We want you to know that the Holy Spirit is a Person who brings you all these things and more. Your relationship with Him is the key to success, freedom and happiness.
Now, it is true that He is invisible and sometimes He is hidden, but He is always present and He is always working. He is omni —all—because He is God. He is omnipresent. He is omnipowerful. He is omni-knowledgeable. In the Person of the Holy Spirit, we see the beauty and splendor and power of God’s divine nature. He is powerful but gentle, strong yet humble, truthful but encouraging. As you begin to see Him as He is, you will be able to look at your own history and find His footprints along your path.
What are you searching for? Are you searching for meaning in your life? Are you wondering why your life events have gone the way they have? Do you feel as though there must be more to life than what you have experienced so far?
No matter what your relationship or non-relationship with God is up to this point, getting to know the Holy Spirit is what you are looking for. He is who you need. He is the answer.

Chapter 1
A Ghost, a Dove or a Person?
One evening when our oldest daughter Anna was in college, I, Mahesh, was suddenly overcome by a strong urge to pray. I did not know why, but I knew the Holy Spirit was alerting me and giving me this sense of urgency. I began to pray in the Spirit, and continued to pray for nearly three hours until I felt the inner prompting leave. It was late in the evening when I left my study, and I saw Anna’s light was still on where she was preparing for her final exams. I stuck my head in the door to say good-night and heard myself saying, “Please drive your mother’s Jeep instead of my car in the morning.” She ordinarily drove my car to school every day. I had no particular reason to make the request, but when she nodded without looking up, I told her a second time just to make sure she had heard me. Then I went to bed.
The next morning, our phone rang just before eight o’clock. It was the police department. Our daughter Anna had just been involved in a terrible car crash.
When we arrived at the scene, the EMS and fire department were fervently working to extricate our daughter from the destroyed Jeep. She had hit a slick spot in the road and lost control of the vehicle. It was wrapped around a tree in a shallow ravine. Everyone involved was certain that our daughter was either dead or dying.
Bonnie rushed to the car as they finally got Anna out. The patrolman on the scene s
