Introduction
D O YOU LONG to know Christ in a way that transforms the way you think and the way you live?
I do.
So did the early disciples. As they followed Jesus, they came to know him. That relationship shaped their faith. It changed them. Let’s consider for a moment that we are walking with him in the three-plus years he was here on earth.
Let’s sit with him. Let’s listen to his words. Let’s watch as Jesus interacts with his friends and those who resist his love. Let’s watch as he reaches out to people, even those who rebuff him. What would it be like to crowd in close to hear him speak and learn from him?
My prayer for this Come With Me Devotional is that you will walk with him as if you’ve never heard about him. My prayer is that you’ll discover Jesus all over again.
As you read through the book of Luke, and walk with Jesus, ask these questions:
Jesus, what are you saying?
Are these words for me?
What does your example teach me?
How do I live this in my real life?
I took this personal journey nearly three years ago. I wasn’t in a crisis of faith, or maybe I was. I wasn’t trying to write a book. I was asking Jesus to rewrite his story on my heart. I love ministry, but somehow faith and ministry became entangled and I wanted to go back to that moment when I first encountered Jesus. When I didn’t really know anything about him, or his Word.
You see, that’s how the original disciples began. They had no idea what saying yes to Jesus’ invitation meant. They found out as they walked with him.
Something beautiful took place as I stepped into the book of Luke and asked the questions for myself. Let me repeat those questions. They’re important.
Jesus, what are you saying?
Are these words for me?
What does your example teach me?
How do I live this in my real life?
There were moments I sat with my open Bible and wept, totally lost in the beauty of what I heard or witnessed. There were times I was smack in the middle of real life, and I’d hear his words.
Not just hear them, but know where he was leading me—if only I would follow.
This is not a devotion. It’s a journey of rediscovery.
Let’s begin in Luke 4 as Jesus begins his public ministry. Take a seat on a craggy rock in the bleak wilderness as our Savior is led into the wilderness by the Spirit. Prepare to witness an intense battle with a real enemy as our Savior poises to rescue you and me.
Suzie

Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.
