Welcome!
Hello!
T hank you for purchasing this eBook and be welcome to your new opus of the " Team Building inside " collection! We hope this practical guide will help you to implement easily and for a cheap price our experience of more than a decade in the organization and facilitation of hundreds of powerful events to create and make the team spirit alive!
Unity is strenght...
And if you take a closer look, Team is everywhere: at school, where the gym teacher asked you to perform some practical workouts, in your sports club, in social games or team sports, at work, where you are dealing with all your colleagues in your department or section, and even your own Family . Yes, the family is a team, too... it is even the first that you have integrated!
Do not forget that we, as humans, are above all social beings . Teams or groups are part of our genes somehow. It is therefore quite normal to integrate a team and have the desire to want it to evolve into the right direction.
Teamwork
Some definitions...
What is “team building”?
If we take the literal translation, it is the business of "building a team", much like when you erect a house with solid foundations, respecting building standards guaranteeing strength and resistance to weather and erosion.
Team Building deals primarily with interpersonal relationships at work , where you have to meet constraints and objectives.
Concretely speaking , team building enforces activities for several participants (generally employees of a company or institution) organized by expert animators who are called " FACILITATOR ".
If you think organizing team building activities, be ready to accept multiple challenges...
A FACILITATOR must assume several roles at once: ANIMATOR - in order to " facilitate ", you must first of all be capable of animating a group, that is to say: to move it out of its silence, passivity and even reluctance, to get people to do something that maybe they do not feel or like doing. Take the case of holiday resorts: animators must take the leadership of a group of tourists where some are very motivated to do fitness on the edge of the pool, table tennis or archery, and others much less because they are there on vacation, to simply rest. Similarly, you have participants who are dynamic and eager to move, others a little more tired or lazy. The challenge is to give happiness to everyone, to please, to "make it happen" to spread good humor and enthusiasm! ARBITRATOR or "REFEREE" - This is in our opinion the second important aspect of the job. As a FACILITATOR , you must have integrity and be equidistant: individually between the participants in your event, but also collectively between the teams you will create for the occasion during the team building event. Indeed, the various workshops or activities in which participants will engage must be evaluated objectively so as to avoid possible disputes and frustrations. This is a tough job. And this is yours. MEDIATOR - Third, remember that you are working with people who have very different characters and behaviors. They do not always agree - far away from that - and you are not there to only be the referee and keeping score... Conflicts between participants or even among participants and YOU must be solved through dialogue and patience. And you will take care of it with tact and diplomacy! You must even learn to "see" conflicts coming and thus prevent them! Proactiveness is perhaps the greatest quality that a FACILITATOR must have for a successful event. TRAINER - team building activities are sometimes the opportunity to convey specific knowledge of professional fields. You must have educational and interpersonal skills in order to effectively teach and share your knowledge or expertise. Be capable to DIRECT and IMPROVISE - You wrote the script for your event, you have actors (participants) who do not really know the script, and from time to time you will have to improvise and enter on stage to participate in the "movie"! Team building activities usually take place outside the workplace, to break the monotony and routine of the job. So, be part of the show whenever necessary!
Learning to work together and having fun... Seriously?
From the outside, the majority of these activities are similar to "games" where the participants evolve, help each other, achieve goals. Indeed, these "workshops" are more fun because they involve the active participation of all members of a small team to achieve a specific objective within a specified time frame. And when we have fun together, one is necessarily more receptive to the activity in which one participates, hence the choice of Play , and "fun" as powerful vector for positive change .
Who are we?
Cristina & Olivier Rebière
As part of our team building company and the first adventure park ever created in Romania, built with our own hands and open to the public in July 2006, we organized and facilitated dozens of team building events involving hundreds of participants for groups ranging from 7 to 500 people, adults and youth.
Aventura Parc
We wish to share with you our useful knowledge and pro tips to help you advance your team with cheap info & tools. You will find activities that will stimulate the participants and encourage them to reveal their qualities and their pleasure to work together .
With the " Team Building inside " booklets, you will get into the skin of a FACILITATOR and understand the ins and outs of a successful event and get happy participants who will learn from an amazing experience together, who will have strong memories and fun with colleagues, and who will be happier at work.
You can adapt these activities from your small business up to larger organizations using techniques including circular workshops which we will explain in another work, in your family, a group of children or friends. It is up to you :-)
For each activity presented, we also explain the main skills you will be able to evolve along with specific complementary skills.
