In an increasingly interconnected world, where the digital realm intertwines with every facet of our lives, the significance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated. This book, which focuses on cybercrimes, cybersecurity threats, and response, cyber education and, general workings in the cyber world, depicts how technology has not only ushered in unprecedented opportunities but also exposed the world to new and evolving threats that transcend borders and boundaries. - Hon. cyber-attacks against Ukraine which forced Ukraine to establish its own information technology army to protect its cyberspace. Nonetheless, theInternetworld is both a simple and complex platform depending on how we utilise the space, since this is an age of AI-authored books, AI-generated human speech and facilities. We can however navigate through, if we nurture ourselves with the in-depth knowledge on cybersecurity. This is what this book has set out to do. It will not only seek to identify the many risks associated with cybercrime and the nature it takes, but will also reveal how hackers exploit vulnerabilities and how to stem the tide of cybercrime through institutional guidelines, legal response and cybersecurity education. Sadly, some of us indulge in cyber pranks without even knowing our actions also constitute cybercrime! As cybercrime continues to come in different dimensions and in the face of increasing criminal use of theInternet, the only option open to us, is to continue to invest in cybersecurity research, improve cybersecurity practices and follow international best practices as much as we can, so we do not become a prime target to cyber criminals. I dare say that if cybersecurity is a vast industry with diverse specialities, then this book will be suitable for technology policymakers, cybersecurity students and practitioners, security, law and technology experts including cyber education enthusiasts who are interested in staying ahead of cyber risks. On the lighter side, the book is also meant to serve as a warning to potential cybercriminals because once we raise awareness about any subject matter, there is tendency for people to keep to the law.

FOREWORD I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Tomi Ajayi, Esq., LLM, the author of this great book,Internet Technologies and Cybersecurity Law in Nigeria, for extending the honour of writing the Foreword to me. I consider it a privilege to be entrusted with such a significant role. Over the past few decades, in the blink of an eye of history, our world has undergone a complete metamorphosis. One invention of man that has smoothened the transformational phenomenon is the computer. Today, computers dominate the world. The impact of computers on humanity has been tremendous. Indeed, the current age is appropriately christened the Computer Age, the Age of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), or the Electronic Age. Another significant feature of the modern world is the Internet. The Internet is a system thatallows various computer networks around the world to interconnect.Internet connects the person sitting in the remote corner of the home or office to the entire world through the information highway called the web, cyber, etc. Also, dangerously but inadvertently, the Internet connects people to cybercriminals waiting to hit gullible and unwary users. The Internet, which is a direct product of the current technological revolution, is open to all. The openness of the Internet has expanded the scope of criminal opportunities and has spawned new categories of crimes and criminals, popularly known as cybercrimes and cybercriminals, respectively. Unlike conventional communities though, no police officers are patrolling the information superhighway. As such, it is left open to everything from Trojan horses, viruses, and all forms of attack. The Internet, in essence, has become a lawless arena where bullies, deviants, criminals, and terrorists are accommodated and can roam freely with recklessness.

As we embark on the journey through the pages of this book, we are confronted with the realization that the battle for our digital safety requires constant vigilance, adaptability, and a deep understanding of the ever-changing landscape of technology. Cybersecurity is not merely a technical discipline, it is a critical enabler of trust, innovation, and the preservation of our way of life. In the words of the author, it is“a collective responsibility between the governed and the government” to ensure a safer cyberspace.Within the chapters of this book, you will find a wealth of knowledge, insights, and practical guidance from the author who is an expert in the field. From the fundamentals of encryption and network security to the intricacies of threat detection and incident response, this book serves as a comprehensive resource for both the novice and the seasoned professional. The book is not just about the tools and techniques of cybersecurity; it is a call to action. It is a reminder that in this digital age, our collective security is a shared responsibility. It is a plea for organizations, governments, and individuals to prioritize cybersecurity as an essential component of our modern society, even as it serves as a note of warning to cybercriminals. As we delve into the depths of this book, I encourage you to reflect on the role that each of us can play in safeguarding our digital future. The stories of cyberattacks and breaches serve as cautionary tales, but they also illustrate the resilience and ingenuity of those who defend against them. Let these stories inspire you to become a guardian of the digital realm. In closing, I commend the author for her dedication to shedding light on the complex world of cybersecurity. May this book empower you, the reader, to navigate this challenging landscape with confidence and competence. Together, we can build a more secure and resilient digital world for generations to come.
