FOREWORD
I was delighted when I was contacted to write the foreword to The Official Coventry City Quiz Book which has been compiled by Chris Cowlin and Marc White. The Official Coventry City Quiz Book brings back so many wonderful memories from my time as a player and I will never forget walking through the doors of Highfield Road in 1984 to sign for The Sky Blues. However, my career began some seven years earlier when I joined Chesterfield aged 19. I had only played 16 League games for The Spireites when out of the blue I was told that Liverpool had come in for me. Can you imagine what was running through my mind when I heard that the reigning First Division Champions and European Cup winners wanted me to leave Saltergate and move to Anfield? I actually joined Liverpool around the same time that Kenny Dalglish had just arrived from Glasgow Celtic as a direct replacement for Kevin Keegan who had packed his bags to play for SV Hamburg in Germany. I enjoyed my time at Anfield but knew deep down in my heart that if I wanted regular first team football then I would have to move on. And so in 1982 I left Liverpool and joined Shrewsbury Town where I would spend the next two seasons. Then in 1984 The Sky Blues expressed an interest in taking me to Highfield Road and I jumped at the chance. Over the following 16 years I played alongside some truly wonderful players, all City legends in their own right. And so to the book … there is something for every fan in this book; Chris’s and Marc’s book just about covers all you would ever want to know about the club; the history; the League vii
years; Cup runs; players and managers. What I liked most about the book is the way it is divided it into 100 separate sections with 10 questions per section. And of course what City fan would ever get bored about being questioned on our famous FA Cup winning run in season 1986-87? As soon as I opened the book I was hooked and I know you too will have endless hours of fun testing your own knowledge of The Sky Blues not to mention testing the knowledge of your mates at school, at work, down the local pub or at a game. I must admit there was the odd question or two that really caught me out; quite a few I should have know because I played in the game!; and several that left me scratching my head because I know I should have known the answer but wasn’t just 100% certain. So in closing, I wish Chris and Marc much luck with their book. It is evident that they have put a lot of time into compiling this book which I know all Sky Blues fans out there will want in their book collection. But a final few words if I may must go to all of our magnificent fans that have followed our Club down the years and in particular to all those Sky Blues who supported the Club during my playing career: Thank You for your most loyal and unwavering support, I will never forget you.
Enjoy the book! Steve Ogrizovic

INTRODUCTION ByChrisCowlin
I would first of all like to thank Steve Ogrizovic for writing the foreword to this book. I am very grateful for his help on this project and was truly delighted when he agreed to write a few words. I would also like to thank everyone for their comments and reviews (which can be found at the back of the book). I would also like to thank Justin Tose at Coventry City Football Club for his help and advice during the book’s compilation. It was nice working with Marc White for the first time, who has been well organised. I really hope you enjoy this book. Hopefully it should bring back some wonderful memories of this fantastic club! In closing, I would like to thank all my friends and family for encouraging me to complete this project.
Best wishes Chris Cowlin
