Foreword
I have been a Charlton fan since the sixties, when I climbed over the wall and watched my first game against Plymouth. I was hooked from that date. When I became a ‘Celebrity’, I met some of the players of the day, Derek Hales being a particular hero. The Sunderland play off game nearly ended my life by heart attack! Charlton had hit the big time ... and ruined my act in one go! Gone were the days when I referred to our team as ‘Charlton Nil!’
Nowadays, I try to base my tours around Charlton’s matches and I get to as many away games as possible.
I miss the old days of the covered end and songs. I was part of the epic walks to Palace and QPR. Those days were some of the happiest times of my life... and that’s saying something. I love Charlton Athletic and as the song goes, I will do ‘Till I Die.’
Enjoy this book. It’s an honour to say a few words about my heroes from the Valley.
Come On You Reds!
Jim Davidson
