In this book, we’re going to talk about the rise of the Ottoman Empire. So, let’s get right to it! For more than 600 years, the Ottoman Empire was an imperial power that reigned over the area of the world we know today as the Middle East as well as the eastern portion of Europe.

The empire emerged in 1299 AD and evolved into Turkey in 1923. It was one of the largest powers to ever rule the Mediterranean Sea’s borders. During its height, it controlled Anatolia, southeastern Europe, a section of Northern Africa, and the Middle East.

THE EMERGENCE OF THE OTTOMAN’S POWERFUL EMPIRE
In 1299, Osman I was the ruler of the tribes in Anatolia, which was the westernmost part of Asia. Today, most of Anatolia lies in the country of Turkey.

Osman united the tribes under one central governing body and began to expand the kingdom. Many of the peoples he conquered had different religions, but Osman I allowed the new cultures to keep their religious beliefs.
