The Master of Fate is a debut novella that narrates the story of Remilekun, an orphan, whose desire to fulfil his late mother's dream of getting education takes him to the university. He finds true love at the university with a good girl from a different tribe. Their true love stands firm against all stiff oppositions. However, their true love is short-lived as the newlyweds find themselves in the den of a notorious kidnapping gang, known as the Czar Boys, led by Hitler. The story reaches a nervy moment when the accidental killing of Hitler in police custody reveals state security complicit, a calculated move by the police intended to prevent the dreaded outlaw from letting the cat out of the bag. The story reveals the perverse nature of humans from corruption to injustice, from greed to obsession, and from betrayal to murder. The craftily-plotted story reaches a twisty conclusion that leaves the reader, wondering whom to ever trust again.

Authors Note
It is quite crucial to have a sense of the background to this novel in order to understand some of the allusions in it. This understanding would enable keen readers to appreciate the gnawing experiences that informed the writing ofThe Master of Fate.Set against a society in which poverty and ethnic affiliation is weaponised to a maximum effect, this debut novel is about the social and political nuances of a divided, corrupt people. Worthy of note is that this novel is fiction drawn from contemporary issues of pervasive concerns in todays world recreated in human forms by the writer. Outsiders that burgle successfully a house are often assisted by an insider! The Master of Fatetells the narrative of those who secretly pander the oppression of their own people. Such accomplices are pawns in the chess games of the chief oppressors. More disturbing is how these abettors live among the people; smile with their people; dine with their people; congregate with their people, and even weep with their people, but clandestinely plot for the incarceration and subjugation of their own people to the vainglory of their paymasters. With infrequent crumbs thrown at them, they become unabashed acquiesce. Loyalty to the chief oppressors counts much in so far it gratifies their self-indulgent avarice. To them, surrendering to underlying personal cravings is the beginning of wisdom. Such conceited hypocrites who sold their own people for a pot of porridge put their peoples lives at the centre of hopelessness.
Sadly, the people should have more to fear of Judases in their midst than external aggressors because there is a saying:A house divided against itself shall never stand. Many at times, we blame men and women in high places who let us down, but never see how we let down one another. The novel thus unties a tangled web of greed, duplicity and betrayal by a people of common destiny. From reading this fictional work, it is hoped that readers would see such traitors and hypocrites in the mirror of continuing conflictual struggle between malevolent villains and benign victims. It is a gripping tragedy that will hook keen readers to the shocking, twisted end. Finally, no country in the worlddeveloped or underdeveloped is completely free fromfaux pas. In view of this, this creative work was not inspired by petty prejudice or intended to promote gravy animosity towards anyone or a group of persons, but it is rather a fiction intended to inspire sustained, collective efforts towards societal reformation for a better today and a brighter tomorrow. S. O. Ajibiye,Ph.D.
