About the Author
The author was born to Nigerian and American parents and is British, thus identifies himself as a ‘Child of the World’, staring at the stars above and hence, his nom de plume – Starchild.
His academic achievements include a BSc in Human Biology and an MSc in Medical Microbiology; perhaps, this scientific direction must have stemmed from a curious mind and his love of nature, and its wisdom.
He is currently studying for a PGCE in Science, specialising in Chemistry.
As a child, he was generally good at sports and passionate about books, chess and music. He has also earned a living as a disc jockey.
He is at ease with each platform and is able to juggle and find inspiration and familiarity in music, poetry, nature and science. As if the same language is echoed through the forces of rhythms, harmony and melody, present in his poetic license.
A combination of all the aforementioned circumstances has brought him to a point where he seems to have developed a penchant for prose and verse and, most notably, sonnets.
About the book
On Pegasus’ wings, I fly like a phoenix
Soaring across continents, clans and counties
Gliding over mountains and seas
Inspired by Euterpe’s secret melody
While singing Orpheus’ lamentable hymn
They say poetry makes it a bit easier to live life
I hope that these sonnets surmount such heights
Burning like fire and quenching like water
The truth, spoken through the word
Of a child staring at the bright star
A chance, at least, to live twice, here and afar.
Dedication
To my mother and father.

My gratitude to my publisher and all the wordsmiths.
Off the Cuff
When I first arrived
They all asked me what I was doing here.
(I thought that it was quite obvious, dear!)
Now that I am leaving, the question is:
Where are you going?
The answer, there and everywhere:
On a different journey or path.
Not to amass riches like Gates or Rockefeller
Another type of wealth, for the reader and prose writer
Sure, many shall forget me by next summer
But I have surely left a part of me at your centre
Even for those that don’t even bother.
Kismet
What are my chances against kismet
If all that I am has already been preset
With summer’s spring and autumn’s fall into winter
The flowers blossom and so shall they wither
And as the sun shines and stars glitter
All in tandem and equal measure
O shower me with thoughts to ponder
Like when lightning strikes and heavens thunder
There must be more to this I often wonder
Or could it be just a fateful blunder
Familiar chants from spires, minarets and altar
Echo loudly across Java to Gibraltar
The promise of tomorrow always on offer
It seems, perhaps, just a careless whisper.
Ode to the Gunners
Oh Arsenal, cream of London!
Rising to the top is in your nature
Often curdling and changing in texture
Able to be prepared at any temperature
Swirling and dazzling with each fixture
Ever preserving that brilliant feature
Ye pretenders sneer and plot
With confidence oft’ hurt but pride never spoilt
Onward and forward with every shot, and occasional blot
Never yielding, for pace and beauty is always a must.
Recurring derbies and challenges to our North
Nouveau riche pretentions keep us brewing in the West
Intermingling with history and heritage down South
Not to mention those hammerings of the East
Still slick and chic, served with panache
Solid number ones of years past (Oh, that nostalgic moustache!)
Like the Flying Dutchman soaring without flight
The A-Team, invincible! Never forgetting such remarkable and unbelievable heights.
