In this book, we’re going to talk about fun questions and answers concerning physics, chemistry, and biology. So, let’s get right to it!
Question: What is physics?
Answer: Physics is the study of matter and how it moves. It’s also the study of how matter interacts with force and with energy. Physics is a huge subject with many different subcategories. The study of electricity is part of physics. So is the study of astronomy. The study of sound and the study of light are also parts of physics. In summary, when you study physics you study the tiniest subatomic particles to the elements that make up the universe. All the matter and anti-matter in the entire universe is part of physics.

Question: Is light a wave or a particle?
Answer: For centuries physicists tried to answer this question. Light is a type of energy. It is made up of photons (NOT protons). These photons don’t have any mass, which means that light is not considered to be a form of matter. Light is unique from other forms of energy because it displays behavior that is similar to both particles and waves. So, in summary, light is a form of energy that has a dual nature. It behaves both as a particle and as a wave. It moves at the fastest speed that physicists currently know in the universe, over 186,200 miles PER SECOND!
Question: What is the difference between kinetic energy and potential energy?
Answer: “Kinetic” comes from the Greek language. The word “kinetikos” in Greek translates to “motion.” Anything that is in motion has kinetic energy. If a book falls off your desk and you move to pick it up, you are showing kinetic energy. If you are playing soccer on the field with your friends, then you are displaying kinetic energy. Potential energy is the energy stored in an object or body based on its position or the particles that it’s made of. For example, if water is stored behind a dam that’s closed, it has potential energy. As soon as the dam is opened and the water rushes out, it’s exhibiting kinetic energy.
