I n this book, we’re going to talk about questions and answers about geography and the Earth. So, let’s get right to it!
Question: How many continents are there on planet Earth?
Answer: There are seven continents. North and South America are two of the seven continents. They are joined by a thin strip of land. The continent of Europe and the continent of Asia are connected to each other. There is a thin strip of land that connects the continent of Africa to Asia.
T he continent of Australia is surrounded by the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Australia is part of a larger region called Oceania, which includes thousands of islands scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. The continent of Antarctica is south of all the other continents.

Question: Which continents does the equator pass through?
Answer: The equator is NOT a real line. It’s an imaginary line that travels around the world and is an equal distance from the north pole and the south pole. It separates the world into a top half, called the northern hemisphere, and a bottom half, called the southern hemisphere.

T he equator passes through three continents and the region of Oceania. It passes through seven countries in Africa, two countries in Asia, and three countries in South America. It also passes through Kiribati, which is an island republic in the Central Pacific.
