Instead of fairy tales, why not introduce mythology to your little ones? Myths are reflective of the collective thoughts of the locals. They feature customs, traditions and the belief systems of that time. Even the clothing and weapons illustrated in a mythological story are based on historical facts. So tonight, go ahead and read the story of Apollo’s Deadly Bow and Arrow to your little one.

Greek gods are very busy, so it is good they have super- human powers.

On top of guiding the sun, providing oracles, and many other tasks, the god Apollo was a master with a bow and arrow, and was the patron of archers.

Let’s find out more about him and his bow!

Who was Apollo?
Apollo and Artemis were twins the children of the high god Zeus and the titan Leto. Hera, Zeus’ wife, tried to prevent the birth of the children. She first forbade Leto from giving birth on any land. But Leto found a floating island, Delos, which was not considered real land yet, and gave birth to her children there. Later on, Zeus attached Delos to the sea bottom. It became a major shrine to Apollo.

What did Apollo look like?

Although Apollo is one of the senior gods, artists normally show him as young, handsome, and without a beard. He is a symbol of youth, vigor, and energy.
