Life Skills Test
Grade 5
Thomas and Angela are twins. They are eleven years old and in Grade 5. They have always loved playing together when they were little, but now that they are in Grade 5, they do not always get along anymore. They do not share the same interests anymore as Thomas is always busy with sport and Angela loves doing art, music and schoolwork. She does not like sport at all and has therefore decided not take part in sports. Thomas is not doing as well in his tests and schoolwork as Angela. He just doesn’t find schoolwork that interesting and would rather spend time on the sports field. Thomas is always fighting with his parents, because his test results are poor. Angela is doing very well in her tests and her parents are giving her lots of positive feedback.
1.What is a person’s self-concept?
Self-concept, emotions and bullying
Angela and Thomas both had a project that was due on Monday. Thomas decided to only start working on the project on Sunday and as a result he got far less marks than Angela for her project. His dad was very angry with him and shouted at him, telling him that he is wasting his talents. He is a clever boy. Thomas was very disappointed in himself and decided that schoolwork is not for him, he is never going to be able to do as well as Angela. Angela decided that she would like to win the music award at the end of the year. She asked her mother if she can have an extra music lesson every week to help her improve.
Their mother told Thomas that he must remember that everyone has different talents, but that he must remember that without an education, he will not succeed in life.
