Data Handling Introduction Statistics is the name given to thestudy of data. It involves: 1. Collecting data 2. Sorting data 3. Displaying data in diagrams or charts 4. Analysing the results 5. Coming to conclusions Data is a collection of facts.Data can be numbers, words, measurements, observations or even just a description of things. How is data collected? Data can be collected using surveys, recording sheets, tables, tally sheets, etc. How is data organised or ordered? Data is organised or ordered in tables and charts, grouping similar types of data together. Why is data organised or ordered? Organised or ordered data, in the form of tables or charts, are easier to read and interpret. Trends, frequencies, averages, positive or negative correlations and misleading data can easily be spotted if data is in an organized or ordered format. Mode, mean and median are  called measures ofcentral tendency. Terminology: Modemode is the number in your data that The occurs most often. You can also say the  mode is the value that has the highest frequency. Median The median of a data set is the number right in themiddleof anordereddata set.  If there is an odd number of scores, the median is the middle number.  If there is an even number of scores, then two numbers will be the middle numbers. In  that case, you add the two numbers together and divide by 2. Mean The mean is the average. To determine the mean you add all the scores together and  then divide the sum by the number of scores. Rangedifference between the highest value and the lowest value in a data set is called the The  range. Range is a measure ofspread.
