Preface
This book is a pioneering and pioneer work on a law enforcement agency – the EFCC in Nigeria. The subject of law enforcement is not only fascinating, the academic discourse on the subject is also very compelling. It is both compelling and interesting partly because it deals with important aspects of the political state institution or agency of social control; with enormous reach and powers with monumental ramifications and consequences for the polity and citizenry. Indeed, as an academic discipline, the science of law enforcement is the study – scientific study – of the role of law enforcement apparatus, agencies, organizations and institutions which are charged with the responsibilities of ensuring that the rules, laws, and regulations of the political state, entity or commonwealth are obeyed and not flouted for the wel fare, we ll-being and common good of the commonwealth. The subject is also at once compelling, fascinating and interesting because there is a mix of politics in law enforcement and a mix of law enforcement in politics which the authors of this book could not resist exploring in the Nigerian milieu. Our academic training, professional and experiential exposure to the science of law enforcement and political science made this imperative.
