Population - Année 1963 - Volume 18 - Numéro 3 - Pages 573-574
Pressat Roland. — The Working Population in France : First Results of the 1962 Census of Population.
Up to the war, the census of the working population which have been conducted in France since 1896, caught the attention of a few specialists only. Even during the « slump » of 1925-1935, it is more the concept of « unemployment » which was perceived, than the concept of « employment ».
Since the war and especially since a National Health Scheme has been created on one hand, and since the Planning Board and a National Accounting Plan have been installed too, the notion of working population is more and more widely spread. Four and five years' plans are even based on it. As usual in such cases, along with such an expansion, the very procedures took a new stride forward. And now, forecasts of working population can be worked out in most developped countries.
Mr. Roland Pressât, who gives here the results of the 1962 census and discusses them, has actually been a pioneer in this field of study.

Abstract
Pressat Roland. — The Working Population in France : First Results of the 1962 Census of Population.
Up to the war, the census of the working population which have been conducted in France since 1896, caught the attention of a
few specialists only. Even during the « slump » of 1925-1935, it is more the concept of « unemployment » which was perceived,
than the concept of « employment ».
Since the war and especially since a National Health Scheme has been created on one hand, and since the Planning Board and
a National Accounting Plan have been installed too, the notion of working population is more and more widely spread. Four and
five years' plans are even based on it. As usual in such cases, along with such an expansion, the very procedures took a new
stride forward. And now, forecasts of working population can be worked out in most developped countries.
Mr. Roland Pressât, who gives here the results of the 1962 census and discusses them, has actually been a pioneer in this field
of study.
