The extent of memory span was measured by two different tachistoscope tests : number of letters recognized and estimation of a number of points. These two were correlated in 290 subjects with achievement tests, intelligence tests, and perceptual tests suggested by factorial studies. The correlation between the two tests of memory span was only .28, showing the diversity of the two processes. Moreover, they have different correlations with the achievement tests and the intelligence tests as a function of the nature of the material and the type of response. However, they both have significant correlations with the tests of factor S, of speed of perception and of flexibility. The whole of these results permits a better analysis of the forms of perceptual activity which are implied in the measurements of memory span. between the two tests of memory span was only .28, showing the diversity of the two processes.
