Revue d'histoire de la pharmacie - Année 1975 - Volume 63 - Numéro 226 - Pages 523-527
Materia medica antirabica
Before the era of antirabic vaccination which was inaugurated by Pasteur (1885) preceded by Galtier (1881), all kinds of drugs were used against this dreadful disease.
We give here a brief summary of the question, considering successively the remedies of vegetal, animal, mineral and chemical origin as well as the compound drugs.
With the exception of cauterizing substances applied on the wound immediately after the bite, all these remedies were wholly inefficient and the so-called cures observed were concerning persons which were not rabid.
