Acknowledgments
First of all, I would like to thank Prof. Dr. Andreas Schäffer for giving me the opportunity to
carry out this PhD-thesis at his Institute for Biology V and for being the first advisor of this
thesis.
I would like to thank Prof. Dr. Hans Toni Ratte for his readiness to be the second advisor of
this thesis.
Many thanks go to Prof. Dr. Alan Slusarenko for his willingness to be the third advisor of this
thesis.
Thanks to Mathias Ebel for his support, advice and endless hours of discussion about other
subjects than just this thesis.
My thanks go also Prof. Dr. Ingolf Schuphan for his help in the search of a scolarship.
My gratitudes go to Dr. Andrea Körner, Dr. Josef Föhles, Silvia Meilhammer and Petra Esser
of the DWI for their help in the characterisation of the wool hydrolysate.
I am also grateful to Dr. Martin Zimmermann for his assistance in the identification of the
microorganisms and his expertise in the separation of peptide-solutions.
I would also like to thank Dr. Philippe Corvini and Dr. Rong Ji for their continuous advice
during this thesis.
Thanks also to Gregor Hommes and Ulrike Schuller for their advice and help in the molecular
biological methods.
I would like to express my thanks to Markus Lenz for his jokes and his patter.
I would like to thank Hatice Daghan for bringing me into pyhytoremediation research.
My thanks go also to the engineers of the workshop as well as the gardeners of the Gut
Melaten for their help during my thesis.
I would like to thank the RWTH Graduierten Förderung and the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung
for their economical support. Without them this thesis would not have been possible.
My thanks go to Dr. Shelley Obermann and Dr. Alfons Obermann for their endless time and
effort in reading my thesis and publications.
Especially I would like thank Dr. Caitriona Obermann for always cheering me up when once
again one of the experiments did not work.
Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to my parents for their continual
support and encouragement during the making of this thesis as well as during the rest of my
studies at the RWTH Aachen University. Declaration / Erklärung
Herewith I declare that I have written this doctorate thesis myself, using only the referenced
literature.
Hiermit versichere ich, dass ich die vorliegende Doktorarbeit selbstständig verfasst und keine
