AbstractArepresentationofareductiveLiegroupisapre-homogeneousspaceprovidedithasaZariski-openorbit.AstratiﬁedKa¨hlerspaceisastratiﬁedsymplecticspacetogetherwithacomplexan-alyticstructurewhichiscompatiblewiththestratiﬁedsymplecticstructure;inparticulareachstratumisaKa¨hlermanifoldinanobviousfashion.ThenotionofstratiﬁedKa¨hlerspaceestablishesanintimaterelationshipbetweennilpotentorbits,singularreduc-tion,invarianttheory,reductivedualpairs,Jordantriplesystems,symmetricdomains,andpre-homogeneousspaces.ThepurposeofthetalkistoillustratethegeometryofstratiﬁedKa¨hlerspaces.ExamplesofstratiﬁedKa¨hlerspacesabound.TheclosureofaholomorphicnilpotentorbitcarriesanormalKa¨hlerstructure.SymplecticreductioncarriesaKa¨hlermanifoldtoanormalstrat-iﬁedKa¨hlerspaceinsuchawaythatthesheafofgermsofpo-larizedfunctionscoincideswiththeordinarysheafofgermsofholomorphicfunctions.Projectivizationofholomorphicnilpo-tentorbitsyieldsexoticstratiﬁedKa¨hlerstructuresoncomplexprojectivespacesandoncertaincomplexprojectivevarietiesin-cludingcomplexprojectivequadrics,Scorzavarietiesandtheirsecantvarieties.Physicalexamplesarereducedspacesarisingfromangularmomentum.Theappearanceofsingularitiesinclassicalphasespacesistheruleratherthantheexception.Whilewithincanonicalquantiza-tiontheimplementationofsingularitiesisfarfrombeingclearthepossibleimpactofclassicalphasespacesingularitiesonquantumproblemscanbeexploredviaquantizationonstratiﬁedKa¨hlerspaces.2
