children recognize the
alphabet, distinguish and
match upper and lower case
letters, know many of the
letter sounds, and recognize
and write their name. By the end of
kindergarten children
should be able to read at
least 50 words,,p spell 20
words, know all the
letters and sounds, and
write two complete
sentences using sound
spelling and be able to
read it aloud. In first grade children move on
and learn 100 sight words by
January and 200 by June! They
are expected to spell 40 pencil
words correctly in January and
70 in 70 in June.
