Program Course Description:This is a beginning course for Pre-International Baccalaureate students only.It involves short phrase such as salutations, time, weather as well as introductory vocabulary, grammar and minimal reading, writing and speaking. Standards & Benchmarks Addressed: 1.communicate in a language other than English.Communication: Students 2.develop cultural understanding and demonstrate practiceCulture: Students appropriate to the culture(s) in which the language is used. District Assessments and How Proficiency is Determined: 1.Proficiency in the communication standard is determined by five learning scenarios that the students must learn.The five learning scenarios cover real life situations that cover, health and medical, shopping, travel (hotels), asking for and understanding directions,and restaurants (meals, food and drink). 2.Proficiency in culture is assessed through 5 cultural readings that accompany the learning scenarios. Studentsare then asked to answer 5 true or false questions based on each reading.
