You can either buy the income shares of the company or you can buy the growth share of the company. If you buy the income share, the company gives the share holders the profits that the company got at the end of the year in the cash or more shares. You can also sell your shares back to company if you want to.

The other form of share, the growth share is the type where you do not get the dividends annually but the profit goes back into the company to add to its growth. In this kind of share the value of your share grows according to the company's growth. The share holders can sell their shares whenever they want to, depending on the value of their shares.
