Basement Flooding Subsidy; Minimizing Effects of Floods in Toronto City At the beginning of the year 2009, the city of Toronto introduced a basement flood subsidy program. This is a program initiated to protect people living in the urban area from the effects of floods. The subsidy helps reimburse homeowners who invest in flood prevention devices to reduce the risk of sudden floods in their homes. The subsidy has its stipulations and requirements for a homeowner to qualify. Who is Eligible for the Subsidy? Not every home is considered eligible for the program, but the rules mostly rule out new builds that would have had sump pumps and back water valves installed as part of their design. Here are the minimum requirements to qualify for the subsidy: The home must be the residence of one family. Or the property is a duplex or triplex. The house must have been built before 2009. (New builds are not eligible for this program.) You must disconnect your downspout from the city sewer lines. All paved areas of your property must adhere to city by-laws. You can only apply after the work is finished and has been inspected. You can only apply for the first year after the work is completed. The work has to be performed by a licensed contractor from the Toronto area. You must keep your original invoice from the work on hand. The work cannot exceed a cost of $3,400. Only 1 subsidy for 1 property. The basement subsidy program ensures that homes are not at a risk of flooding. This is made possible by making improvements on the sewer systems in the homes of Toronto. There is no home that is guaranteed safety from flooding. High rainfall poses a challenge to flooding, so there is the need to reduce the chances of this hazard. An expert will analyze the cause of the real problem and provide the exact solution for those problems. Make sure that you hire a licensed plumber and one who is licensed in the Toronto area.
