A Street Cottage | Our Cup Of Tea
List Price:2,250,000.00 Neighborhood:The AvenuesProperty Profile:7,169 sq. ft. | 4 bed, 6 bath Our Opinion:We’ǀe said it ďefoƌe: style is so ŵuĐh ŵoƌe thaŶ the ǁay soŵethiŶg looks. It’s aŶ aiƌ, a peƌsoŶa, a ǁay of life. It can be studied, of course, but there are those that simplyhave it. That effortless expression of self. The ease of flaǁless pƌeseŶtatioŶ. Whateǀeƌ ͞it͟ is, this paƌtiĐulaƌ ĐlieŶt has it iŶ spades. OŶĐe ahigh-ranking stylist for a few well-known interior design publications (think:French Vogue,House Beautiful,House & Garden,Veranda, andElle Decor), she brought her whole clanand that flawless sense of stylefrom New York to Salt Lake for a change of scenery. And scenery they got, to say the least. The dreamy cottage in which the family resides is a cup of English countryside in the Aves, and is seated on precisely .59 acresan unheard of bit of earth around these parts. The original owner commissioned the home (from one Georgius Young Cannonarchitect of the Springville Carnegie Library, the Beehive House Restoration, andthisstunning home) for his British bride, in the hopes of gifting her a bit of England in her new stateside home. The ƌesultiŶg spaĐe is the eŵďodiŵeŶt of a ͞stoƌyďook Đottage͟. PaƌtiĐulaƌ ƌooŵs ǁe die foƌ: the eŶtƌyǁay laŶdiŶg, the kitchen (a modestly-sized number, completely remodeled by the current owners, that functions flawlessly in the space), and the main living area (with original, raked-cement cathedral ceilings, and a stunning fireside). If we had to choose a fourthfavorite room, it would undeniably be the cutting garden off the front of the house (with roses and peonies accessible by kitchen windows through September). And the fifth, if wehadto, would be the backyard. The sensational, fully-landscaped backyard (all three tiers of it) faces west, affording those within it not only smashing sunset views, but views of the Capitol building, the Salt Lake Temple, and all of downtown, as well. Nooks, crannies, and an air of timelessness abound in this garden, which has been maintained since the home was built, nearly 100 years ago. The home is historic from the exterior, but the finishes, craftsmanship, and styling are unparalleled. The roof, boiler, and front aŶd ďaĐk deĐks aƌe all ďƌaŶd Ŷeǁ; the tiles iŶ the kitĐheŶ ;iŵpoƌted fƌoŵ a ŵoŶasteƌy iŶ FƌaŶĐeͿ, the paŶtƌy’s hidden subzero drawer, and the wood-burning stove in the sunroom are all thoughtfully-fitting additions, too. The solid wood doors, leaded glass windows, and Japanese maple out back, however, are all original, and stand as true testaments to the timelessness ofgood style. It’s a Ƌuiet elegaŶĐe, heƌe, aŶd pƌeĐisely the soƌt of house ǁe liǀe to loǀe.
