The majority of the territorial controversies of the beginning of this century take place at world’s oceans and seas, either on the islands, simple cliffs or in small areas of the ocean. Nevertheless, the biggest disputes, although smouldering, is that concerning the Arctic area. The dispute has evolved suddenly, simultaneously with the melting of the ice cap, thus providing unexpected economic opportunities which were hard to imagine in the last century as: the exploitation of the oil and natural gazes resources from the area and the opportunity of openingthe shortest maritime route between the Atlantic and pacific oceans.
