TIMELINE

Chapter 1 | THE PLANE IN THE MEADOW
Philippe Artus, a pilot in the French airforce at the start of World War II, escapes German fighter planes and lands his aircraft in a meadow.

Chapter 2 | YOU MUST GO, PAPA!
Philippe and his family discuss whether he should remain in France or flee to England where he can continue fighting.

Chapter 3 | ESCAPE!
Having decided to try and fly to England, Philippe takes off and flies towards the Channel.

Chapter 4 | IN THE DRINK
After a fight with enemy planes, Philippe runs out of fuel and comes down in the Channel.

Chapter 5 | MEMBER OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE
Philippe is rescued by the Royal Navy and trains as a pilot in Britain’s Royal Air Force (RAF). He learns that France has surrendered to the Germans.

Chapter 6 | ‘WELCOME, FROGGIE!’
After finishing his training, Philippe is sent to RAF Hornchurch in Essex. The other pilots welcome him warmly.

Chapter 7 | SCRAMBLE!
The Battle of Britain begins, but Philippe is not allowed to fly with his squadron because his English is not good enough.

Chapter 8 | THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Philippe is finally allowed to fly in combat, and performs with great skill and bravery. Shot down, he has a dream.
