Bampa's Bedtime Stories are based on some of the tales that Bampa wrote for his children some 40 years ago. The opening story, 'Fairies', is written from the perspective of a small child who has been told that there are fairies at the bottom of her garden and is determined to see them, however scary it may turn out to be. In 'Judgement Day', the warlike Gabblenocks, who like nothing better than to terrify their neighbours, are confronted by a gentle giant - gentle, that is, until the Gabblenocks' usual tactics push him too far! The longest of the stories, 'The Enchanted Tree', recounts the adventures of bold Billy and his less confident sister, Grace, who discover a world of strangeness and magic a few metres from their very normal home. The stories, written in graceful rhyming couplets, are evocatively illustrated by the person who perhaps knows them best - the author's daughter, Katie Willis.
